You need a computer cause the software that is used is windows base 9 an older computer Windows 8 or higher should work just fine), and You will also need a USB to DB9 adapter AND a sound card if the sound card in your computer works then you can plug the cable into that, you may need an adapter if your computer only has ONE jack on it. If your computer sound card OR the jacks are bad, then you will need a USB sound card!
If you want Zello and weather announcements to work, then yes, you will need internet access. For date & time and repeater ID, you do NOT need internet for that to work!
NOTE: I recommend getting the USB sound card!! I have a brand new (cheap) laptop and the built-in sound card is not very good for this!!
