how does the interface board hookup to the computer?

One end of the interface board will plug into the repeater and the other end will plug into a USB to db9 adapter which that will go into the computer (if your computer doesn't have a DB9) you will have to buy that separately. There will be TWO audio cable coming off the interface board that will need to be plugged into your computer, one will go to the mic, the other one will go to speaker out. If your computer only has ONE jack, you will need to buy a 2 to one adapter. If your computer has TWO jacks, one for mic and one for speaker out, you will not need an adapter. If your computer sound card or jacks are bad, then you will need a USB sound card.

NOTE: I recommend getting the USB sound card!! I have a brand new (cheap) laptop and the built-in sound card is not very good for this!!
